Couples Therapy

Relationships can be difficult and require TWO willing participants for success. Marnie Zang Katularu LPC, MSC, NCC, is a Gottman-trained therapist that specializes in marriage and family distress. What Is Couples Counseling?

Couples counseling is not only appropriate when a crisis is present, but also beneficial when issues arise with communication, infidelity, addiction, and conflict. Couples therapy can provide necessary skills for healthy and effective communication so you can have loving and fulfilling relationships. Couples counseling is customarily short-term, and can typically be completed in 8 or fewer sessions.

Who Should Have Couples Counseling?

Couples counseling is beneficial for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, marital status, or age. Topics typically treated include but are not limited to:

  • Infidelity
  • Financial distress
  • Addiction
  • Anger management

Couples counseling can help strengthen your relationship and create help to a greater understanding of your partner.

What Should I Expect During Couples Counseling?

Couples counseling requires two willing participants for the process to work! You and your partner will be asked to engage in weekly therapy sessions where you will explore the issues with a trained mental health professional. Together, with your therapist, you will create a treatment plan that will help create greater understanding, resolve issues and strengthen the relationship.

Your counselor will complete a thorough history on both you and your partner to gain a greater understanding of the underlying issues and thought patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties. Your counselor will work with you and your partner in establishing healthy boundaries and effective ways of communication. Sometimes “homework” is given so you can practice these skills at home. If you’re interested in healing your relationship or strengthening an already strong one, call Saguaro Behavioral Health today.
